Ingredients :
For rice cake:
- Rice flour: 200 g
- Salt: 1 tsp
- Boiling water: 100 ml
- Sesame oil: 1 tbsp
For Tteok-bokki:
- Chopped onion: 1 bunch
- Boiling water: 4 cups
- Chili pepper powder: 3 tablespoons
- Dried gypsy fish (optional): 5 pieces
- Soy sauce: 2 tbsp
- Sugar: 4 tablespoons
- Grated garlic: 2 teaspoons
- Sesame oil: 1 tbsp
- Chopped white cabbage: 50 g
- Chili pepper paste or tomato paste: 4 tbsp
- Boiled eggs: 3 pcs
- Noodles: 1 package
- Fish cake: 25 g
- Raw or roasted sesame: 2 tbsp
Step 1: How to make Korean rice cake
First, pour the rice flour with salt into a bowl and mix together. Then add a glass of boiling water and stir gently to make a paste. The dough should be relatively loose but sticky.
Now put the dough in a strainer on the steamer and cook for 40 minutes. You can put a smooth bottom of greaseproof paper so that the dough does not stick to it. Make sure the steamer has enough water or, if necessary, add boiling water to it during cooking.
Grease a flat surface such as a board or a tray with sesame oil, place the dough on it and beat well with a meat grinder to cool slightly. When it is cool enough to touch, start kneading by hand.
When the dough is well kneaded, roll it into rolls 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter. Cut the rolls to 5 cm.
Step 2: Tteok-bokki
First, clean the gypsy fish and pour it in 4 cups of boiling water and put it on the heat for 30 minutes to cook. After half an hour, remove them.
To make the duckweed sauce, mix the grated garlic, pepper powder, sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, tomato paste (or chili paste) into a bowl. Then add them to boiling water and let them boil together for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, put the rice cakes in boiling water and let them boil with the ingredients for 10 to 15 minutes.
Finally, add noodles, onions, chopped cabbage, fish cake and boiled eggs and turn off the heat after 7 to 10 minutes.
Serve the Tteok-bokki in your desired dish and sprinkle some sesame seeds on it for decoration. Some chopped onions can also make the food look more beautiful.
